Tucked in a valley, this picturesque village is compact, yet still provides all the amenities and services required.

Now part of the municipality of Inari and in the shadow of the gently rounded Kaunispää fell, the village has plenty of ski lifts and opportunities to indulge yourself in a selection of winter sports.  The cross country skiing in this area is of a particularly high standard.

The village also has a well equipped spa, that will provide welcome relief to tired muscles after a hard day’s activity.

In 1983 the region stretching towards the border with Russia was turned into the UKK National Park. This vast wilderness is stunning and contains many species of animal and plants alike.

Konrad Planting started the famous Finnish gold rush in the Lutto River in 1865, by 1902 a mining company had built a 100km cart trail down as far as Sodankylä. Maybe you could try your hand at panning and see if you strike lucky!
