Itinerary:
Day One
COLLECT YOUR SPECIAL boarding pass when you check in at your UK airport and don't forget to keep it safe! We depart the UK around 8am and on arriving into Enontekio airport, you will be met at the airport by local guides who will assist you to your coach.
The village of Hetta is just a short 10 to 15 minute transfer from the airport. Keep your eyes peeled during the 45-minute transfer as you may be able to spot one of Santa's reindeers roaming through the woods or even one of his elves on their way to Santa's secret cabin.
Temperatures in this part of Lapland range between -7C and -35C in December and the included all-in-one thermal suits and boots are an essential part of your holiday package and we will stop to collect these en route to your accommodation.
Once everyone is ready, we'll continue the last few minutes of the journey. Once arrived, you check into your chosen accommodation. Refreshments will be available during your welcome meeting hosted by your representative, who will go through the content of your stay and introduce you to the area, giving you all the information you need to get the most from your break.
This evening we have a treat in store! Join us on a walk to the local church where, after a short welcome by the local vicar, we will enjoy carol singing, before returning to our accommodation. Once back at the hotel, you can enjoy a welcome dinner. Your Transun rep will be available throughout to answer any further questions you may have. It has been a long day, however a few little people are very excited and not ready to go to sleep yet. Tell them they must get plenty of rest as we have a very busy day tomorrow and there is certain someone very close by who is taking note!
Day Two
UPON WAKING, YOU will think it is still the middle of the night, due to the profound quietness and darkness outside. But then you will remember you are in Santa's homeland and the excitement will begin to build because today is the day you will set out through the forest to find him.
After a hearty breakfast and time to get all of your outdoor wear on, we will head into the local area. The winter scenery will remind you again of why Santa chose this area for one of his many resting places. Here a fun-filled day awaits. Our snow fun activities include: tobogganing down the slopes, guiding your own stiga (toboggans with steering wheels for youngsters), working out how to use the kick sledges and learning to balance and use the tandem skis. Or you can practice scoring goals at snow hockey, proving who is the strongest in tug of war, or just having a good old fashioned snowball fight. And youngsters can take a couple of laps on the supervised kid's snowmobile track (see page 48 for further details). As the activities are available throughout the day you can enjoy them at your leisure. Don't forget to keep your camera close by, as the day is bound to provide some memorable photo opportunities. A hot warming lunch will be provided.
However the highlight of the day is sure to be when, with your special boarding ticket in hand, you join Santa's own reindeer sleigh as you set off In Search of Father Christmas. You will travel though the still, snow-laden trees to find a secret path with one of the elves to guide you on your way. There are sure to be a few clues on the journey, so see how many you can spot. As the anticipation builds you will see something through the trees. Could this be place where we will find Santa taking a well-deserved rest in his chosen log cabin or Sámi kota? During a private family meeting with Santa, each child has the chance to talk with Santa and they will receive a small gift from him which will bring a smile and evoke special memories for years to come of the day they met the real Father Christmas.
After this magical day filled with lasting memories, we will sit down for a special festive dinner, complete with crackers, party poppers and blowers, a time to share magical experiences and memories and enjoy the afterglow of a day spent in the Arctic wilderness.
Day Three
HOPEFULLY FULLY REFRESHED after a good night's sleep and breakfast, it's time to check out before joining in your two included Santa safaris, a 5km Husky Safari and a 1.5-hour Snowmobile Safari, when you will enjoy two adventures surrounded by the vast landscapes of this majestic region.
After your safaris, we have a small amount of time left to have a last go at tobogganing or for those that wish to, there should be time to participate in one of our exciting optional excursions - perhaps an introduction to reindeer herding, or an expedition to a frozen lake to try your hand at ice fishing? (see page 14 for full details). Lunch will be provided at the hotel before we depart back to Enontekio airport for our flight to the UK.
