MAKE THIS YEAR'S New Year's Eve one to remember! On our New Year Legends short break, you can welcome in the New Year deep inside the Arctic Circle with a special celebration in the magical atmosphere of Karesuando in Lapland.

29 December

IT'S ABOUT 10AM and you are on board and ready to take off to the home of Father Christmas. With your special boarding pass collected at check-in in a safe place, you can relax until touchdown in Enontekio when you will board a coach with assistance from our local guides.

Sit back and soak up your surroundings on the 45-minute transfer to the Davvi Arctic Lodge. This is the Northern lights route, and offers magnificent scenery. Maybe we will spot one of Santa's reindeer - there are far more of them in this part of the world than people. Just before the Davvi Arctic Lodge, we'll stop to collect your included all-in-one thermal suits and boots. Temperatures here range between -7C and -35C in December and the suits and boots are an essential part of your holiday package. Please note hats, scarves and gloves are also necessary but are not included. Be sure to bring some for everyone! After completing the last few minutes of the journey to the Davvi Arctic Lodge, you can check into your chosen accommodation type. In the early evening, your Transun representative will host a welcome meeting, providing you with an insight into the area, and discussing the content of your break in detail. During a welcome dinner, your rep will be on hand to speak to each family individually and answer questions. Tonight, you might like to join one of our optional activities, such as a night safari, offering the thrill of travelling through the wilderness beneath the stars, perhaps seeing the Northern Lights. See page 14 for full details of our optional activities.

30 December

AFTER BREAKFAST, YOU will head out on your first Santa safari, either a 5km Husky Safari or a 1.5-hour Snowmobile Safari. Lunch will be provided at the hotel. In the afternoon for those with older children, we will take a stroll on snowshoes (like walking on a pair of tennis racquets!). We will wander through the unspoiled wilderness, taking a break to warm up with a drink of hot juice before continuing back to the hotel. Those with younger children can join the snow activities around Davvi Arctic Lodge, tobogganing, kick sledges, stigas (toboggans with steering wheels for youngsters) or old fashioned snowball fights! Or you could try one of our optional excursions or just keep warm in the hotel perhaps joining in the craft activities available. This evening, there will be a host's cocktail reception, followed by a special New Year Celebration.

New Year's Eve

UPON WAKING, YOU will be struck by the profound quietness and darkness outside. And then it will dawn on you, you are in Santa's homeland, and today's the day you will set out in search of Santa!

After a late breakfast, we will head outside, where a fun-filled day awaits. Our snow fun activities include tobogganing down the slopes, guiding your own stiga, working out how to use the kick sledges and learning to balance and use the tandem skis. Or you can try scoring goals at snow hockey, proving who is the strongest in tug of war, or enjoy a snowball fight. And youngsters can try the supervised kid's snowmobile track (see page 48 for further details). The activities are available throughout the day. Don't forget to keep your camera close by, as the day will provide some great photo opportunities. Lunch will be at the hotel between 12 and 2 and can be taken at leisure, with hot drinks available outside and in all day. For those wanting to warm up, Mrs Claus is preparing for tonight's festive dinner with craft activities in the Davvi Arctic Lodge. Alternatively, you can enjoy quality family time playing one of the many board games available.

The highlight of the day arrives when, with your special boarding ticket in hand, you join Santa's own reindeer sleigh to set off in search of Father Christmas. You will travel on a magical journey though the snow-laden trees, with one of the elves to guide you. Could this be where we will find Santa taking a rest in his chosen log cabin or Sámi kota? During a private family meeting, each child has the chance to talk with Santa and will receive a small gift which will evoke special memories for years to come of the day they met the real Father Christmas.

Fancy visiting another country this evening? Work up an appetite for dinner by joining us on a walk to the local church, across the border. It's the most northerly church in Sweden! After a short welcome by the local vicar and carol singing, we will head back to the Davvi Arctic Lodge. After dinner, enjoy a drink in the bar or wind down in the Sámi Lounge with a board game or two. Or join an optional excursion.

New Year's Day

AFTER BREAKFAST, YOU check out of your room ready for your last Santa safari, A 5km Husky Safari or a 1.5-hour Snowmobile safari, whichever activity you did not join on New Year's Eve. And then there's time for a final play in the snow or one more optional excursion. After lunch at the Davvi Arctic Lodge, we depart for Enontekio and our flight home.
