Make this year's New Year's Eve one to remember! On our New Year Magic short break, you can welcome in the New Year way inside the Arctic Circle with a special celebration in the magical atmosphere of Hetta in Lapland.

30 December

CHECK IN AT your UK airport and collect your special boarding pass. You'll depart the UK around 10am and arrive into Enontekio airport late afternoon. Local guides will greet you and assist you to your coach. The village of Hetta is a 10 to 15 minute transfer. Temperatures in this part of Lapland range between -7C and -35C in December and the included all-in-one thermal suits and boots are an essential part of your holiday package and we will stop to collect these en route. Please note that hats, scarves and gloves are also necessary but are not included. Remember to pack some for everyone! On arrival in Hetta, you check into your chosen accommodation type. In the early evening, your Transun representative will host a welcome meeting and will discuss the content of your break in detail. This evening during a welcome dinner, your rep will endeavour to speak to each family individually to answer any questions you may have.

Tonight, you might like to join one of our optional activities, such as a night safari, offering the thrill of travelling through the wilderness beneath the stars, perhaps encountering the Northern Lights. See page 14 for full details of all our exciting optional activities.

New Year's Eve

AFTER BREAKFAST YOU will head out on your first Santa safari, either a 5km Husky Safari or a 1.5-hour Snowmobile Safari when you will enjoy an adventure surrounded by the vast unspoiled landscapes of this majestic region. Back at the hotel, a warming buffet lunch will be served. In the afternoon, those with older children can take a stroll on snowshoes (like walking on a pair of tennis racquets!) through the wilderness. Those with younger children can take part in the snow activities available nearby, including tobogganing, kick sledges, stigas (toboggans with steering wheels for youngsters) or good old fashioned snowball fights! ?Alternatively, you might like another chance to join one of our exciting optional activities. Or keep warm inside and join the festive craft activities. This evening there will be a special New Year Celebration.

New Year's Day

UPON WAKING, YOU will be struck by the profound quietness and darkness outside. But then it will dawn on you, you are in Santa's homeland, and today's the day you will set out in search of Santa!

After breakfast, we will head outside for a fun-filled day. Our snow fun activities include tobogganing down the slopes, guiding your own stiga, and working out how to use the kick sledges and the tandem skis. Or you can try scoring goals at snow hockey, or testing your strength in tug-of-war, or improving your snowball aim! And youngsters can take a couple of laps on the supervised kid's snowmobile track (see page 48 for further details). As the activities are available throughout the day you can enjoy them at your leisure. Don't forget to keep your camera close by, as the day is bound to provide great photo opportunities.

Lunch will be provided at your hotel, with hot drinks available outside throughout the day.

Make sure you have your special boarding pass as, with this in hand, you board Santa's own reindeer sleigh and set off in search of Father Christmas. You will travel on a magical journey though the snow-laden trees to find a secret path, with one of the elves to guide you on your way. Could this be the place where we will find Santa taking a well-deserved rest in his chosen log cabin or Sámi kota? During a private family meeting with Santa, each child has the chance to talk with Santa and will receive a small gift which will evoke special memories for years to come of the day they met the real Father Christmas.

This evening we have another treat in store! Join us on a walk to the local church where, after a short welcome by the local vicar, we will enjoy carol singing, before returning to our accommodation. After a long and fulfilling day it is time to sit down to a well-deserved dinner, followed by an evening relaxing and reliving the day's memories. Alternatively, you might join one of our optional activities, perhaps riding by snowmobile or husky sled in search of a magical encounter with the Northern Lights. See page 14 for full details of all our optional activities.

2 January

AFTER BREAKFAST, YOU check out of your room ready for your last Santa safari. A 5km Husky Safari or a 1.5-hour Snowmobile Safari, whichever activity you did not join on New Year's Eve. It's then time to have your final play in the snow (a bit more toboganning perhaps) or there is a last opportunity to join one of our optional excursions - perhaps an introduction to reindeer herding, or an expedition to a frozen lake to try your hand at ice fishing? (see page 14 for details). Lunch will be provided at the hotel before we bid a fond farewell to the magical home of the real Father Christmas and head over to Enontekio airport for our flight back home.
