Itinerary:

IT'S ABOUT 10AM and you are on board your flight, ready to take off to Lapland - home of the real Father Christmas. With your special boarding pass that you collected at check-in safely tucked away, you can relax for a few hours while you wait for your plane to touchdown in Enontekio. Having cleared customs and boarded your coach with the assistance of one of our guides, you really feel the magic begin to weave its spell. You sit back and soak up your surroundings for 15 minutes before the coach pulls into the small Lappish village of Hetta. On the way, you may spot one of Father Christmas's many reindeer roaming free. They vastly outnumber men in this far-flung region.

We will briefly stop en route to collect your included all-in-one thermal suits and boots. The temperatures in Lapland can reach -35C in December so your suit and boots are a vital piece of equipment.

Arriving at your chosen accommodation, you get settled in. In the early evening, your Transun representative will host a welcome meeting, discussing the content of your break and answering questions. Later, sit down to a welcome dinner, when the Transun representative will be available for any further assistance. After dinner, you may wish to take your first steps into the snowy vista to make your first snowman, or purchase a bottle of wine and relax in the hotel or in your cabin.

Alternatively, you might like to join one of our optional activities, such as a night safari, offering the thrill of travelling through the wilderness beneath the stars, perhaps encountering the Northern Lights. See page 14 for full details of all our exciting optional activities. At bedtime, your children will no doubt be eager to know when they can start their search for the great man himself but you will have to tell them that there will be lots of fun to be had before we set off on our search for Santa.

Day Two

AFTER BREAKFAST AND the chance to find your bearings, it is time to start the activities. During the morning you will head out on your first Santa safari - either a thrilling 5km Husky Safari or an exhilarating 1.5-hour Snowmobile Safari. Lunch will be waiting as you return to the hotel, when you can take stock of the morning's activity. In the afternoon, you will want to get straight back out to enjoy snow activities: try your hand at tobogganing, kick sledges, stigas (toboggans with steering wheels for youngsters) or old-fashioned snowball fights! After dinner you may want to get an early night or perhaps relax and reflect upon the highlights of the day. Alternatively, you have another chance to join one of our optional activities, perhaps riding by snowmobile or husky sled in search of a magical encounter with the Northern Lights. But we haven't seen Santa yet! The kids may say at bedtime. He is very, busy, you can say. But don't worry, we will go searching for him soon!

Day Three

AFTER BREAKFAST YOU will be taken for your second Santa safari - whichever you didn't do yesterday, either a 5km husky safari or a 1.5-hour snowmobile safari. When you get back, a warming lunch will be waiting, when you can swap stories about your morning. After lunch, you can again take part in the nearby snow activities, including tobogganing, kick sledges, stigas and snowball fights. Those with younger children or who perhaps want a break from the cold may choose to join the Transun rep for indoor crafts when you can make decorations, crackers and hats for the Festive Dinner. Those with older children may like to try taking a stroll into the wilderness on snowshoes, a bit like wearing tennis racquets on your feet! If you still haven't had enough of the outdoors today, you may want to join one of the many optional excursions. If the day's activities weren't quite enough for you, this evening you can join us on a walk to the local church where, after a short welcome by the local vicar, we will enjoy carol singing, before returning to our accommodation.

After another relaxing dinner you might like to join one of our night-time optional safaris, perhaps in search of the Northern Lights. As the kids are going to bed, you might suggest that you have heard rumours of the whereabouts of Santa's secret resting place and that tomorrow you will hopefully find him!

Day Four

AFTER BREAKFAST, WE will head outside to start our final full day. Surely we will find the grand old man today? But first it is time to get some serious practice in for Santa's Snow Olympics tomorrow. How fast can you toboggan and how tall can you build your snowman?

Our snow fun activities include tobogganing down the slopes, guiding your own stiga, and working out how to use the kick sledges and the tandem skis. Or you can practice scoring goals at snow hockey, testing your strength in the tug of war, or enjoying snowball fights. And youngsters can take a couple of laps on the supervised kid's snowmobile track (see page 48 for further details). As the activities are available throughout the day you can enjoy them at your leisure. Don't forget to keep your camera close by, as the day is bound to provide some ?memorable photo opportunities. Lunch is served at your hotel, with hot drinks available throughout the day. Don't forget all meals are included in the price of your trip.

And now the moment that you have all been waiting for is here at last. It is time to set off in search of Santa! Remember the special boarding pass you collected on your way to Lapland? It may seem like a distant memory now but make sure you remind yourself of the information it contains. Without it you may not find your way! You climb aboard a magical reindeer sleigh as you set off through the hushed, snow-filled landscape in search of Father Christmas. As you head off though the snow-laden trees, an elf will help guide you on your way. Follow the trail that has been left behind ... it must lead somewhere. Finally, the answer will be revealed and we hope to find Santa taking a rest in his chosen log cabin or Sámi kota, a traditional tent made of reindeer skins.

During a private family meeting with Santa, each child has the chance to talk with Santa and they will receive a small gift which will evoke special memories for years to come of the day they met the real Father Christmas. After this magical day, we will sit down for a special Festive Dinner, complete with crackers, party poppers and blowers, a time to share magical experiences and memories and enjoy the afterglow of a day spent in the Arctic wilderness.

Day Five

AFTER A GOOD night's sleep and breakfast, it is time to check out. As you have surely had lots of practice by now, it is time for the Santa's Snow Olympics for all those who wish to enter. There are three winter disciplines to challenge you:

Tobogganing - this will be based on age ranges and is a timed run.

Snowball throwing - Who can score the highest number of points or even a bulls eye?

Snowman challenge - this family activity is all about working together to build the best snowman in the time available.

Alternatively, there is a last opportunity to join one of our optional excursions - perhaps an introduction to reindeer herding, or an expedition to a frozen lake to try your hand at ice fishing? (see page 14 for details).

Before your last lunch with us, the prizes from the snow Olympics will be handed out in our prize ceremony to those who were fastest, most accurate and most creative. And then it is time to depart back to Enontekio airport for our flight to the UK, accompanied by some tired but happy children and a suitcase full of priceless memories.
